Arthur Haywood, Esq. has provided legal services for a Homeless Shelter in
Coatesville, Pennsylvania since 1988. Initially, the shelter was operated by the First Seventh-day Adventist Church of Coatesville,
and since 1992 has been operated by the W.C. Atkinson Memorial Community Services Center, Inc. (AMSCI), a non-profit corporation,
formed under the judicious legal services of Attorney Haywood.
During that time, a complicated property with five
parcels-in-one was secured; and subsequently houses a shelter for homeless men and resource center for community initiatives.
Haywood provided resource development skill as well as legal services in the development of transitional housing, a transitory
step for homeless men from the shelter. Haywood successfully supervised a proposal to HUD to construct townhouses for a Supportive
Permanent Housing Initiative. In addition, an agreement was formed with a housing corporation to successfully gain a PHFA
grant to provide eighteen apartments for low to moderate income individuals. Also, an agreement was formed with the local
hospital to develop an on-site and accessible health center for community members.
Mr. Haywood, Esq. was initially
assigned to our program as an attorney of a Legal Service Team as part of a state-wide assistance for those providing affordable
housing. When Haywood expanded to his private practice, AMSCI chose to retain his services as legal counsel.
